Popis:
I must admit I was as bit skeptical the first time I heard about the band All For Metal. I could be mistaken but when AFM Records announced the creation of this act it just happened by an act of sheer will and money. It seemed a bit contrived and manufactured by a big company to capitalize on a trend, unlike a bunch of friends jamming in the garage and naively decide to form the world’s most awesome band. It also seemed a bit too close to another AFM band, Brothers Of Metal. However, I quickly dismissed those concerns as it is the music that counts! AFM assembled this sextet (two women, four men) made of young and talented Italians and Germans. The debut LEGENDS didn’t light the world on fire but I liked it.
Oddly enough, considering the band name and roots, the band is no longer on AFM Records (All For Metal) but moved over to the new label Reigning Phoenix. If you follow Metal industry the move is probably not that shocking as the ex-Managing Director of AFM, Jochem Richert, left AFM to found Reigning Phoenix and let just took All For Metal (the band) with him.
One year after LEGENDS was issued we get a quick follow-up called GODS OF METAL. Strike while the iron is hot! With a sub-title of ‘Year Of The Dragon’ the new album delves into Japanese culture. There is a very nicely voiced opening monologue explaining that our Europe Metal heroes travelled to the land of the Rising Sun to do battle and so on. It’s not surprising that the band would dabble in Japanese imagery for two reasons. One, for many people, Japan is culturally interesting with many elements of heroism (samurai etc) and secondly, a melodic Metal band like All For Metal would fit perfectly in Japan. It makes sense artistically and commercially. A number of other bands in this style have recently tapped into Japanese imagery such as DragonForce, Sabaton, Metal DeFacto and Victorius. East meets west in a perfect matchup of Vikings and samurai!
GODS OF METAL is totally abound with heroic Manowar references and this brings a tear of joy to my electric eye. We get multiple layers of vocals; gruff and clean and guests as well as narration and gang vocals!
Sonically, GODS OF METAL is flawless with, clean, contemporary production with any number of flourishes of keyboards, traditional sounding Japanese wind instruments or and acoustic guitar. The album has a great blend of fast tunes, pounding sing-along anthems, and glorious epics. If you strip away the opening and closing monologues the ten-track album is 41 minutes long, long enough to tell the engaging story.
GODS OF METAL, as one would hope with a title like that, is packed full of clean, Euro-driven, Power Metal. All For Metal have delivered another energetic and entertaining album!
