Packaged in a 6-Panel Fold-Out Card Sleeve with a beautifully creative 24-Page Booklet included, this is the 7th studio album from the man behind the magnificent keyboard arrangements on Steve Hackett’s first few post-GENESIS albums!
Having served his musical apprenticeship in the 70’s working alongside Robert John Godfrey in the Progressive Symphonic Rock band The ENID, Nick Magnus moved on to become Steve Hackett’s keyboard player during the guitarist’s rise to fame as a solo artist, following his departure from GENESIS.
Many also know Nick Magnus for his time with The KORGIS.
His time with these bands has provided Nick with the founding influences that are applied to the keyboards-driven Symphonic Prog music that has engineered over the string of seven superbly crafted self-produced solo albums he has released since the mid-90s.
Recorded, mixed and mastered at Magick Nuns studio, all the music for ‘A Strange Inheritance’ was composed, arranged and produced by Nick Magnus (vocals / keyboards / synthesisers / percussion / tongue drum) and again, lyrics were penned by Dick Foster, who also delivers graphics production.
As always, there’s another array of guest musicians and singers on hand. On vocals Tony Patterson (from REGENESIS) returns once more for two cuts, with Andy Neve also making a welcome return. Steve Hackett usually puts in a performance for Nick, this time it’s on harmonica, John Greenwood from Australian Prog band UNITOPIA plays guitars, with Ginger Bennett and Louise Young providing extra vocals. So what you’re getting is another melody fuelled epic production from Nick Magnus, the master of keyboards orchestrations and a whole lot more besides, so ‘A Strange Inheritance’ promises to be another fine addition to his fans collections.
The concept for ‘A Strange Inheritance’ stemmed from an original idea Dick Foster and Nick Magnus had a few years back. Dick had toyed with the idea of writing a musical based on a fictional pirate called ‘Black Jack’, but having looked at the experience of the trials, tribulations and monumental expense others had gone through just trying to get such events off the ground, they decided instead to adapt the ideas from the original story into something similar - but different - that could work for a concept album… and here it is: ‘A Strange Inheritance’.
