With their first major label release called Gift the nu metal band Taproot made it to the charts. Two singles from the album, "I" and "Again & Again" were minor Rock singles. With the release of Gift they stepped into the spotlight after building a reputation in the underground scene. The vocal styles on the album mixes singing and growling with rapping screaming. The album's heavy riffs are created by putting their topics about depression and the disappointing part of life in their music. Steven Richards uses his screams at the right moments. Each song has a totally different vibe as the one before, which makes it a versatile album.

Taproot released several albums during their +20 year existence. They reached the top of the charts with their 2002 single hit "Poem". Gift is now available on vinyl for the first time.
